Adrenaline to the max

The title of this post is more reffering to how I was feeling while in D Hall of Dreamhack as each song in the Kreativ playlist was coming along. Across the board there was an amazing array of tallent, some of the entrants being fellow Reason 4 users!

However, as the words "Tracked Music <3" flashed across the screen it was evident that the 19 songs I was listening to was all that was going to be played for the category I entered in. I could've come back here at 6:00pm to see who was in the playlist, but I wanted to find by experiencing the playlist. In total, 25 songs were in the playlist, 19 from Pre-rendered (my category) and 6 from the Tracked Music category. Over 40 submissions were made though, and since there was a showcasing of 2 hrs only, they had to pick the ones that were the best for this event.

I am a bit upset, as I imagine many of the other entrants mentioned in the section bellow the voting are too, but at the same time, I don't feel all that bitter about it. I could sit and mope about it but hearing the songs out there, I wasnt all too suprised by the end. My song lacked the bass and the beat that was common to almost all of the songs in the main playlist. My song also probably didn't have the same level of realism in the sound as did the songs played. I also wonder if my username "JupiterWrath" sounded a bit too lame compared with "Manzeey" and "Tengis", who I must admit had amazing songs!

Anyway, this hasn't dampened my spirits. I guess on the bright side, since it hasn't been up for voting, I don't have to worry about being ranked last!

If I ever make my way to dreamhack again though, I'll be sure to be entering again but this time with a song that fits the scene better =P!

Also, I noticed that the thumbnail i provided, pictured here, is a little bit too small, yet it still looks great.

So to finish up, I'm still happy with my song, but since it didn't get heard here at Dreamhack, anyone wanting to hear it can do so, Just Click Here!

Kreativ Submission

With just under 2 hours till Kreativ takes over DH, I'm starting to feel nervous, and the adrenaline is starting to get to me, no pun intended!

Speaking of which, my final submission of the song has so many new elements, it really is a whole new song. I spent almost a whole day here at DH re-mastering the song, covering everything from the synthesizers, the drum beats and drums used, added more instruments, re-routed mixer for the song, and in the end its been almost a nightmare trying to get the sound I wanted.

The deadline has been met and no new entries can be taken, and currently submitted entries can't be modified. I myself ended up replacing my files 4 times before I was satisfied with them.. Though now, having listened to my song over and over again, i've been thinking of things i should have done, or shouldn't have done... but still, the song it's self is great!

The thought of around 10,000 people hearing a song I made is really amazing! I'm not entirely sure how it's going to work, but I believe that at 6:00pm swedish time, the speakers are going to tune into the songs, videos and other submissions, that made it through the initial round (make sure the stuff is apropriate, and isnt going to just be a fail). I'm pretty sure "Adrenaline" will make it past that stage, but I really dont know how it's going to sound on large speakers =o! I've only listened to it from either my laptop's speakers and my headphones.

Anyway, all that asside, my biggest fear/concern is that its not going to go well with the crowd. Winning isn't as important to me as reception. If the crowd likes it, then I know that i'm making decent music, but if its a dud... well then, back to the drawing board, and time to re-think my aproach to writing music..

With a background in video-game music and more theme/classical music styles, certain elements of trance and hardstyle come easy, but its not all simple.. there's a certain dynamic you have to achieve and I struggle to get that.. Hardstyle can be this epic sounding combing lead with a massive drum playing a LOTR style tune, but it can just as well be sirens and sounds which are not really melodic in any way, but hey, that's music! I lean too much towards trying to get a melody, that I feel i dont get my foot into the right category enough at times... So what all that rambling really means, is that I hope that the song is also in the right category and fits for the scene!

Anyway, there's a magician on the big screen now, so im going to watch that =P! looking forward to it!

DreamHack

First Official Entry for me now! - no more prologues

I am currently in Sweden, attending Dreamhack, the world's BIGGEST computer festival! Over 10,000 people, all hooked up to a massive network, playing games, surfing the net, browsing and trying out the new games and hardware on display, competing in competitions, so on!

It's an event that spread over 4 days, or over 72 hours at least. As well as celebrating the advent of modern-day computing, there are many live music shows as well as round-the-clock DJ'ing with Laser light show included! Get onto youtube and search "Dreamhack" and you might get an idea of what I mean.

One of the competitions held here is the Kreative set of competions. Inclusive of these are some Music competions so I am planing to enter this with my song "Adrenaline" which I think is fitting for the scene here. Hardstyle, Techno, and Trance runs wild in the halls of dreamhack, so why not choose a song that reflects that right? My laptop isnt as powerful as my desktop computer at home in Australia, but it'll do the job. I need to tweak my song first, but it should be ready in a couple of hours! Hopefully it'll get some decent airplay here.

For now, I'm feeling tired from lack of a good nights sleep, but I want to add another entry here within the next few days. though later tonight I'll probably make a small update with a link to the Finished song!
